U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon Joins Cleveland Browns for “Stay in the Game!” Attendance Celebration
Cleveland, OH – Today, U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon visited Cleveland, Ohio for a celebration event with the NFL team, the Cleveland Browns, on their premier youth outreach initiative, the Stay in the Game! program.
Honoring local students from the Intergenerational Schools, the celebration recognized 40 K-8 students who were uniquely selected by their teachers for exemplary school attendance records. Secretary McMahon welcomed students at the facility for a special program featuring academic motivation remarks, an interactive tour, and outdoor field day games.
“Showing up to learn every single day is the most fundamental step a student can take toward achieving long-term success,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon. “To set our youth up for tomorrow's economic realities, we must look beyond standard models — which is why this unique partnership brilliantly uses the universal appeal of sports to connect with children exactly where they are. It was a true privilege to witness this in action while celebrating 40 young Ohioans whose commitment to everyday school attendance sets a powerful example.”
Launched in 2019, the Stay in the Game! Attendance Network combats chronic absenteeism by connecting schools with proven resources and expert support. Originally founded by the Cleveland Browns Foundation, the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, and Harvard’s Proving Ground, the network is now managed by Battelle.
Stay in the Game! plays a key role in connecting districts and education leaders to the resources and tools that can meaningfully improve attendance, including:
- Attendance campaign materials to use in schools and community
- Incentives and activities aimed at students to reward good and improved attendance
- Peer learning opportunities to meaningfully impact attendance
